Kid Savant are a band from NYC who are beginning to garner acclaim for their high-tension brand of synthpop. Their live show is sparse and direct: four guys onstage, lit only with projections, building anthems from tones and beats and sheer determination. At Irving Plaza on September 12th, they rolled through their set as if there was nothing else in the world except the moment, the audience, and the sounds emanating from the speakers. The songs flowed quickly into each other, dynamic and catchy, a half-hour of melodies and unstoppable momentum.
The performance was infectious, a statement of intent and potential. It was a glimpse of a group full of possibility, filling a club with a sound scaled for a stadium: a band far bigger than themselves, heading for far bigger things.
